Apparently the fish man only brought fish, and the pizza man only pizza. If they wanted a fan they had to go to Asda. Fawn didn't know what an Asda was, but the building was big and people were leaving with carts full of stuff. Exciting!

Inside they were greeted by a large display of plush bears, and fawn gasped.

"Friends. We should free them."

"It was a good day," John agreed with a smile.

He got the dinner plated and brought it to Fawn to settle on the sofa.

"Want to watch while we eat/" he asked. "Or after?"

"We can dine and watch," Fawn insisted.

John settled in with his plate and his beer, then took the remote to call it up.

"This is a classic," he smiled.

Fawn settled in beside him, eating his potatoes and trying the meat.

All was good- Until it wasn't.

"Where is his mother?" Fawn asked.

[petty_dabbler]

"Oh, she's, uh..." he said, not thinking quickly enough to grab the remote to skip.

A gunshot rang out.

And the little deer found his mother.

Fawn looked shocked, traumatized even.

"I do not like this film. I want to watch the cake show please," he said finally.

[petty_dabbler]

"It gets better. Sweet. He ice skates..." he attempted, but put his plate down to reach for the remote.

Fawn still looked devastated, and he put his own plate aside, no longer hungry- Least of all for flesh.

"Oh, love," John said softly. "I'm sorry. I forgot about that bit. The rest of it is really sweet," he promised, then clicked to Fawn favourite cake show.

Fawn curled up against him, sighing softly.

"I just don't like thinking on sadness."

There was so much sadness in the world, John felt like sometimes that was all he knew.

"Come here," he said gently, opening his arms to hold him.

Fawn cuddled up to him, purring softly.

[petty_dabbler]

John looked at Fawn's plate and then kissed the top of his head.

"I don't think we should leave the dinner and movie plans to me anymore," he said softly.

"Okay," Fawn said, "Are all the films you like sad?"

[petty_dabbler]

"If you think that was sad...then, erm, yes. I guess so," he replied. Even big action movies tended to have some heart wrenching twist.

"Why do mortals like sad things? Isn't life tragic enough?" Fawn asked.

[petty_dabbler]

"Empathy, love. We watch things to feel things, to know what it's like, without having to really go through it," he explained.

[fawnthefae]

Fawn sort of understood that. ...Kind of.

"Next time we watch something sad, can it not be dead animals?" he asked.

[petty_dabbler]

"Of course, love. I'm sorry," he said softly, kissing him once more.

The fae kissed him back, then slowly moved to perch on his lap.

"Thank you for sharing a home with me, the fae said softly.

"I can't imagine anywhere I'd rather be. Thank you for inviting me along," John said. He gently touched Fawn's face and looked into his eyes.

"I was sure you'd be sick of me by now. That you'd be ready to go it alone."

Fawn shook his head.

"No. I love you," he insisted softly.

John smiled softly and kissed him proper.

"I love you, too," he rasped roughly, cleared his throat, then drew back to smile at him again. "Truly. Madly."

"You seem sane to me," Fawn replied thoughtfully. "I love you with honesty too though. My heart sparks for you."
