Fawn was out shopping for more things for his and John's home. ...At least he had been. He'd passed by a pub serving pie. And the pie smelled good. Really good. So good fawn's feet had carried him in without him realizing it.

A kind woman seated him, and he was eagerly awaiting the delightful scented pie when he realized someone behind him was addressing him.

House opened his mouth to answer, then closed it again. Finally he said, "It's complicated." Pause. "We're friends."

Fawn gave him a knowing look though, smirking.

"Even diluted nymph blood is enticing," he purred, teasing the man with a soft laugh.

House had never really liked the implication that there was something about Fin that drew him or whatever.

So he just took a drink of his coffee and then said, "What does that make you then."

"Condensed," Fawn grinned, amused by his own humor.

"Like milk," House said. Then shrugged. "Which I personally find too sweet."

[fawnthefae]

Fawn wondered how milk was condensed. Did they condense cows?

"I am not offering a taste," he assured the man. "What is it you do then? Mortals have work, what work do you do?"

"I'm a doctor," said House. Pause. "You know what a doctor is, don't you."

[fawnthefae]

"Mortal healer," Fawn nodded. His magic reaching out to the man, inspecting him.

"Mortals cut each other open and poke at the inside bits."

House couldn't help but laugh at that. "Yeah," he said. "But I mostly don't do that part. I figure out what's wrong with people and then tell the other doctors what to poke at." He paused, and then added, "I'm like a doctor detective."

"Don't all doctors detect what's wrong?" Fawn asked. "That is what healers do, they find the ailment and heal it."

"Yes," said House, "but they're not as good at it as I am."

[fawnthefae]

"You think yourself the best of them?" Fawn asked. "People who sell grandeur are either damaged or cruel. Which are you?"

"Both," said House. Just matter-of-factly. Though he did add, "But also right."

Fawn appreciated honestly and bluntness, and the fae nodded in approval.

"So what are you good at," House said bluntly. "Besides sex."

[fawnthefae]

"I never claimed to be good at sex, only that my blood provokes desire," Fawn replied. "My talents are varied. I am skilled with my magic, a reasonable chef, I barter well, and above all, I survive."

He paused then, thoughtful.

"I am an exceptional survivor."

"I'm not sure that being not dead counts as a skill," House said. "I mean, I also am not dead."

Fawn only shrugged, he had no reason to impress this man- Nor had the statement meant to impress, it was simply fact. The best thing Fawn knew how to do was not die. Be it at the hand of a foe, or from the harsh storms and fickle nature of the fae realm. He lived, and in a land built to devour, that was worth noting.

"I mean, I've been real close a few times," House said thoughtfully. "So maybe I'm good at surviving too."
