Eliot

 Fin was supposed to be taking him to meet a friend, but when he'd gotten a job at the last minute, he'd insisted Fawn Go without him.

"Eliot's nice," his brother had said. "You'll like him, Fawn. Trust me."

And so Fawn had set off to the bar. It was nearly closing time and he moved through the dwindling crowd, heading towards the bar. He was the spitting image of Fin, a bit slighter, his hair much longer. He also dressed far more casually than Fin, favouring tunics over robes.

Nervous, he took a seat at the bar and looked around.

"I would like to try, yes!" Fawn nodded, not wanting to miss out on new experiences.

"I think you will like it," said Eliot, and filled the two glasses that were there. "It's... fun. And it's sweet."

He grinned. "Like you!" Then laughed. "God, sorry, that was lame. It was jus too perfect." He handed Fawn one of the glasses and then sat down with the other.

"No, that is nice. I'm... I don't know the word. I feel good when you say nice things like that. It's nice. You are nice with your words. ...Handsome and kind, yes," Fawn smiled.

"Thank you... that is very nice to hear too," said Eliot. "But you are very easy to be nice to. And we should get to know each other now, hmm? What is something that makes you happy?" He took a sip of the champagne.

Fawn sipped the bubbles, smiling as they tickled his nose.

"Ice cream, and when the suns used to set on my planet, painting the sky pretty colours. ...I miss that," he admitted softly. "What makes you happy, Eliot?"

The first thing that came to Eliot's mind was plums. The sweet taste, dripping into his mouth while Quentin held the fruit to his lips while laying in his lap. One of the flashes of memory he sometimes got. Fleeting.

He didn't say that.

"Parties with a lot of music and laughter and joy," he settled on instead.

"I've never really been to a party," Fawn admitted. "That does sound fun though."

"I think you would like it very much," said Eliot with a smile. "Friends, music, food, drink. At least, that's the best kind of party. The ones with strangers... they can be a different kind of fun but I don't think you would care for it."

[fawnthefae]

"That does sound fun," Fawn smiled. "Music and food are my favourites," he added with a somewhat toothy grin. "Do you go to parties a lot? Are there parties here?"

[eliot_thespectacular]

"Not so much here," Eliot conceded, "though... I'm not entirely sure why. There could be parties, I suppose. Maybe it's strange because for some people the ship is a workplace.'

[fawnthefae]

"Maybe," Fawn said. "But people work everywhere. Humans love work and money. It has infected my brother. He thinks always of work and credits. So boring."

[eliot_thespectacular]

"That is boring," Eliot agreed. "Sometimes necessary, but utterly boring." He hesitated, and then added, "But your brother... he likes his job, yes?" Because if he only did that particular job for the money, that seemed a little... problematic.

[fawnthefae]

"I think so," Fawn shrugged, not really sure. "He seems happy, I guess."

[eliot_thespectacular]

"That's good," said Eliot. "What about you? How do you spend your time if you don't work?"

[fawnthefae]

"I have a tutor, and I watch vids, and I hang out with John. You know, fun stuff," Fawn shrugged. "I might work one day. Maybe."

[eliot_thespectacular]

Eliot should probably ask about John, remembering Fin's warning. But also... what would that accomplish now? Or maybe he just didn't want to know.

"If you don't have to, you should... do what makes you happy," said Eliot with a shrug. He looked up, and then smiled and said, "Hang tight here for a second, okay? I'm going to go grab our food." He'd told Mags they didn't really need a server, in exchange for thee private space and a nice meal, he didn't mind taking care of it himself.

"Okay!" Fawn smiled, sipping his bubbles again.

This was nice. Fancy clothes, nice company, bubbly drink... He could get used to this.

[eliot_thespectacular]

Eliot got up, disappearing for a few minutes, and then returned expertly carrying a try of food. He set things down in front of them. Pasta with a sweet cream sauce and fresh vegetables, and a bowl of salad with berries and goat cheese for them to share. "Tada!" he said, looking pleased.

"Ooooh, it smells nice! Thank you, Eliot," Fawn said, picking up a fork to dig in.

"Oh, this is very good," he purred happily.

"Well I can't take credit, but I did choose it off of a menu," Eliot said as he settled back in. He refilled his own glass with champagne and then said, "More?" to Fawn.

"Please," Fawn nodded. "I like the bubbles. They are very nice, yes? Sweet and crisp."

"Yes, aren't they!" Eliot enthused, and refilled his glass. "I like making cocktails with champagne too because it's just so fun."

[fawnthefae]

"I thought a cocktail was a feather animal. ...Bird. I mean bird," he said, looking a bit self conscious about never being certain he was using the right word.

"...In my language I'm not so dumb," he added awkwardly.

[eliot_thespectacular]

"Perhaps you're thinking of a cockatoo - colorful bird, mohawk on its head?" Eliot made a gesture to his hair. "Not that I've ever seen one. Maybe pictures."

Then he offered a reassuring smile and added, "You're not dumb at all, but also imagine how incredibly dumb I would be in your language."

"I guess. Most human's don't know my tongue," Fawn nodded. "I like the birds though. Birds are nice."
