 Fin was supposed to be taking him to meet a friend, but when he'd gotten a job at the last minute, he'd insisted Fawn Go without him.

"Eliot's nice," his brother had said. "You'll like him, Fawn. Trust me."

And so Fawn had set off to the bar. It was nearly closing time and he moved through the dwindling crowd, heading towards the bar. He was the spitting image of Fin, a bit slighter, his hair much longer. He also dressed far more casually than Fin, favouring tunics over robes.

Nervous, he took a seat at the bar and looked around.

"I thought a cocktail was a feather animal. ...Bird. I mean bird," he said, looking a bit self conscious about never being certain he was using the right word.

"...In my language I'm not so dumb," he added awkwardly.

"Perhaps you're thinking of a cockatoo - colorful bird, mohawk on its head?" Eliot made a gesture to his hair. "Not that I've ever seen one. Maybe pictures."

Then he offered a reassuring smile and added, "You're not dumb at all, but also imagine how incredibly dumb I would be in your language."

"I guess. Most human's don't know my tongue," Fawn nodded. "I like the birds though. Birds are nice."

"Birds are nice," said Eliot, and then added brightly, "So are you. Thanks for spending time with me. This is fun, don't you think?"

"It is, it's nice to be in a nice place with a nice person. You are... You are nice," Fawn said, wishing he knew more words.

"You are fallegsál. That is like... Pretty inside too? But bigger. The words are big," he explained.

Eliot honestly wasn't sure if he completely understood what he meant, but it was clearly good. He smiled and refilled their glasses with the rest of the champagne, just as a server came over and slid two piece of cake in front of them. "Mags says it's her favorite," he said. "Red velvet." Eliot thanked him and gave him a grateful look.

"It's pretty," Fawn smiled. "I like sweets. I like sugar. Fin says it's not good for me, but I do not mind. ...You like sweets?" he asked.

"Very much," said Eliot. "Try this... it's good." And he waited, wanting to see if he liked it, because he thought he would.

Fawn took a bite, chewing thoughtfully, then smiling brightly and nodding. "It is very good, yes. I like it very much, Eliot."

Eliot grinned. "Oh, good," he said. "Very good."

He took a bite himself, and washed it down with the champagne. Then he said, "It's um, been a long time since I've been on a date. I'm glad it's going well. I mean. I'm having fun, at least."

"I am also having fun. You are nice to be around. You are patient with me. Some people are not. They get frustrated," Fawn admitted, stabbing his cake just a little. "I don't mean to be... To cause them to feel like that."

"I'm glad," said Eliot, "Though also... that's a pretty low bar. You shouldn't have to deal with people who aren't nice to you. They don't deserve your time."

[fawnthefae]

"Maybe," Fawn nodded. "I know I can be... Difficult. I am not unseeing to my bad things. ...It is nice you like me though. I like you too. You are sweet. Like cake."

[eliot_thespectacular]

"That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me in a while," Eliot said fondly. "Thank you. And finish your cake!" He was wondering if it was okay to ask Fawn if he wanted to come back to his place. As long as he didn't... well, he certainly wasn't going to expect anything, so that was okay, right?

Fawn happily sat and ate, enjoying every last bite and not shy about cleaning his plate.

"Do all dates end in cake? If so I would go more often."

[eliot_thespectacular]

"Not all," Eliot said with a smile. "But I think it's a reasonable request. And speaking of ending, ah... would you like to come back to my place? Just to keep talking. Really."

[fawnthefae]

"Okay," Fawn replied, since talking was nice. He had no reason to assume there was any other reason they might go home together.

Eliot also felt okay about this since, despite Fawn saying he didn't really drink, the champagne didn't seem to have hit him too hard. Eliot certainly wasn't trying to get him drunk.

"Lovely," he said happily, and looked up to see the same server waving them away when Eliot looked up at him. He was going to bring this guy a cocktail tomorrow. "Ready to go then?" he asked Fawn.

"Yes, okay," Fawn nodded. "I would like to see where you rest. Your home, I mean, yes? I like seeing people's, um, space."

"I'm afraid it's not that interesting, but... I'd love to show you anyway," said Eliot. Once they were both up, he offered Fawn his hand.

Fawn nodded, following along.

"Mine isn't very interesting either. Our suite is small. I don't even have a bedroom. Fin said I could have the bedroom, but... He gives me lots, and I worry I take too much."

"Oh, honey," said Eliot sympathetically as they walked. "Your brother loves you so much, I can tell. I bet he doesn't mind giving. Even if you feel like it's just taking."

"I guess. Sometimes I wonder if I should just go. Find some nice planet," Fawn shrugged.

[eliot_thespectacular]

"I suspect that would make him very sad," Eliot said gently as they approached his door and he let them inside.

His quarters were pretty standard, but there were a lot of decorative touches - colorful drapes, a lot of throw pillows.

"Oh! This is nice. I like your pillows," Fawn peeped excitedly.
