He had found his mortal kin. He hadn't even known he might have mortal kin, but when Fawn had wandered into the building with the enticing music and cheap chicken wings, he had been struck by the sight of mortals who felt like his own. They wore little clothing and spun elegantly on tall polls, coaxing coin from the fools who got too near.
Kin. They were kin.
He sat and ate wings as he watched them work, until one finally came over to say hello. She was very tall and mostly muscle, but soft in places men often liked. Her eyes were hazel and her smile sweet, and she smiled as she sat across from him.
"You are really here for the food, huh?" she smiled. "You know the wings across the street are better, sweetheart."
"I came for food, I stayed to watch the sirens work. You are all talented, many will go home broke tonight," Fawn assured her, prompting her to laugh again.
"I like you," she grinned.
"Thank you," Fawn smiled. "I like how you all dance. I would like to learn."
The woman laughed again, then nodded, tossing her ginger hair back behind her shoulders. "Well, we don't have boys in dancing here, I'm afraid, but I do know someone who'd looking for guys. He'd love you. Catch is, he'd want you to be good on a pole before he took you on. You'd have to find lessons... Or do what I did. Get a pole and watch a lot of videos."
They talked for a while, and when Fawn left, he felt renewed. Inspired. He had found his new art.
Walking into the flat, he dropped his coat and announced, "I require a pole for dancing, and access to a tube for mortal videos. A you-tube, they call it."

Date: 2021-04-27 11:30 pm (UTC)"Something modest. We do not want to be too seen," Fawn noted, certain of that much.

Date: 2021-04-27 11:35 pm (UTC)"Modest is my middle name," he grinned, then laughed at his own joke.

Date: 2021-04-28 03:09 am (UTC)"I did not know that. Is it a family name?" the fae asked.
no subject
Date: 2021-04-28 07:32 am (UTC)"No, no. I'm kidding. I'm saying I'm not that modest at all," he explained.

Date: 2021-04-28 01:11 pm (UTC)"Your humor is confusing sometimes," Fawn replied, still looking perplexed.

Date: 2021-04-28 03:19 pm (UTC)"I've got a smart mouth," John said. "Cracking jokes has backfired on me more than once."
He took a bite and gave Fawn a quizzical look.
"What sorts of things do you think are funny?" he asked curiously.
no subject
Date: 2021-04-28 04:02 pm (UTC)Fawn shrugged. The fae didn't really have humour. At least not anything easily defined as such. That's not to say they were without it though. It simply tended to be a bit cheeky and perhaps more situational.
"I think the colour purple can be very amusing," he said after a moment.

Date: 2021-04-28 04:10 pm (UTC)Whoopi won an Oscar and ohn was sure he recalled the film being decidedly not funny. And then he knew Fawn didn't mean that.
He was so literal.
"It's my new life goal to get you to laugh. I mean really laugh," he decided out loud.

Date: 2021-04-28 04:25 pm (UTC)Fawn shrugged, then pointed at an aubergine he'd left perched on the counter, intending to cook it at some point.
"It's funny because it is purple, but also because it can represent a cock," he said cheerfully.

"Who told you that?" he asked, a little scandalized.

Date: 2021-04-28 04:49 pm (UTC)"Hex. He is a healer. We had cider," Fawn said cheerfully.

Date: 2021-04-28 05:02 pm (UTC)If there was another man with that ridiculous name who knew about faeries in London, John would love to meet him.
"I just bet," he said. "What else did he teach you?"

Date: 2021-04-28 05:17 pm (UTC)"You should learn how to read," John nodded, though he wasn't going to encourage doing it with Hex. There were apps or something, he was sure.

Date: 2021-04-28 05:21 pm (UTC)"It's hard though," Fawn sighed. "I don't know. I know some words..."
no subject
Date: 2021-04-28 05:25 pm (UTC)"Want to make a deal? Not a magic deal. A mortal deal. If you learn to read, I'll take you to a fancy restaurant without pictures on the menu," John baited.

Date: 2021-04-28 05:34 pm (UTC)Fawn slumped in his seat, stabbing his fork into his food.
"I will consider it," was all he'd agree to.

Date: 2021-04-28 05:43 pm (UTC)"You don't want to do it, do you?" John asked gently.
no subject
Date: 2021-04-28 05:48 pm (UTC)"It's hard," Fawn said quietly.

Date: 2021-04-28 05:53 pm (UTC)"Learning is hard," he nodded. "But once you know it, it's yours. No one can ever take your knowledge away. Consider that."
no subject
Date: 2021-04-28 05:56 pm (UTC)"I said I will think about it," Fawn huffed, putting down his fork.

Date: 2021-04-28 06:04 pm (UTC)"Alright. What do you think about the food?" he asked as he popped another bite in his mouth.
no subject
Date: 2021-04-28 06:19 pm (UTC)"It is good, but I am full now," Fawn said, still pouting just a bit.
