Apparently the fish man only brought fish, and the pizza man only pizza. If they wanted a fan they had to go to Asda. Fawn didn't know what an Asda was, but the building was big and people were leaving with carts full of stuff. Exciting!

Inside they were greeted by a large display of plush bears, and fawn gasped.

"Friends. We should free them."

"I am pleased you like it," Fawn smiled.

"It's brilliant," he smiled. "You're really taking to having a home."

He joked that Fawn was going to chew the furniture, but that was just a joke. The wild fae seemed like he was enjoying life here.

"I think I like having a place where I am safe and welcome," Fawn confessed.

[petty_dabbler]

"You are very, very welcome," John purred, moving in to kiss him softly. He had creeping, dark thoughts, ut for now he was content to bask in the domestic bliss. A home together. A life. It wasn't so much to ask for, he thought as his lips brushed Fawn's.

Fawn purred happily, nuzzling at John and then kissing him again and again.

John quickly got lost in the kisses and forgot all about the kitchen until he heard little hisses of boiling water sizzling on the stove top.

"Mmm, shit. Dinner," he murmured, reluctantly pulling away.

Fawn giggled, playfully pushing John away.

"We need our strength though!" the fae insisted.

John would much rather keep snogging him, but he turned to go attend to the potatoes.

"Come on. You can watch me make one of the few things I can cook," he chuckled.

Fawn grinned and followed him into the kitchen.

"Is the wood stove okay?" he asked.

[petty_dabbler]

"Yeah. I had one of these in Louisiana for a bit," he smiled. "Just like riding a bike."

Fawn beamed, pleased that he'd done well.

[petty_dabbler]

"Why don't you put a bit more away while I finish this up?" John asked. "It won't take long. Then we can sit and enjoy it."

Fawn nodded, rinsing off the pots and pans before tucking them away, and then putting his new clothes away in the tall set of drawers he'd built.

"The food smells good, what is it made of?" he asked.

Lips and assholes, John thought, and snickered a little like the child he was.

"Meat. Pork I think. And spices," he answered aloud. "And potatoes mashed with butter and cream."

"Pork? ...Piggies?" Fawn asked, looking a little upset.

[petty_dabbler]

"Or chicken. Or beef. I didn't read the label," he replied.

It was probably all of them and a dash of whatever was lying in the ditch, but John didn't care.

Fawn still looked upset.

"I love chickens though."

[petty_dabbler]

"What's the difference between a chicken a a fish? Not much, they both taste good," he said.

But then he really looked at Fawn.

"I can make something else to go with the mash," he offered kindly.

Fawn looked unsure, nervous even.

"I will try your food, but I can not promise to finish it."

[petty_dabbler]

"You don't have to. I can put some pasta on, too. There's plenty of room on this thing for another pot," John offered. He didn't want Fawn to go hungry. Not on the first night home.

"No. Mortals consume flesh, if I am to stay among them, I must at least try it," Fawn decided.

[petty_dabbler]

"You are under no obligation to enjoy it," John said, pointing his fork at him. He went back to stirring the potatoes.

"There's been times I've gone hungry, so I'll eat anything available. I'm well aware most people are more choosy than I am."

"It's just frowned upon to feast on those we share our homes with, and the homes of the fae are often the woods themselves. Chickens, pigs, deer... I have shared resting places with them all," Fawn explained.

[petty_dabbler]

"We do the same, but different. We don't eat dogs or cats or goldfish or lizards. But we domesticated the cows and pigs and chicken for food," John said. "I mean, some people eat all vegan diets. Just nuts and plants and such..."

He'd never really given much thought to why he ate what he ate, but he could understand if Fawn viewed farm animals the same way he pictured a pet.

"I am named for the creatures I laid with the most as a child. I would often curl up beside deer and their fawns and sleep with them. ...At least I was told as much," Fawn explained.
