Fin had told him if he came and got his physical, he could see rabbits. That Hex knew where the rabbits were and would take him to them, if he let them look at him and take some blood.

"Fin told you about the kits? They're so small. I'll be happy to show you when we are done."

"Yes. He said they are newly birthed. ...He said I might touch one," he added.
Fawn was the spitting image of Fin, though his hair was slightly darker and miles longer, hanging to his waist. Where Fin's was wavy, Fawn's was pin straight- If not a bit unruly and often uncombed. Though today it looked tidy enough. It seemed Fin might have convinced him to take a comb to it.

Hex picked up a small metal rectangle with a screen and two lights, one red and one green.
"This is to take a blood sample. You can do it if you'd like. Just hold that hole right here on your wrist. It won't hurt. I promise."
It only took the tiniest bit of blood, drawn through the skin with light suction.

Date: 2021-07-19 06:52 pm (UTC)"It all looks normal."
He put that down and picked up another device, this one with an amber light.
"This is a NIS. That means non-invasive scan. All you have to do is sit still," Hex assured him.

Date: 2021-07-19 07:16 pm (UTC)"Sometimes you can be sick and not know it. Or, sometimes, usually if there's a problem it's because someone has some sort of parasite or germ that don't make them sick, but could make another being on the ship die, yeah?" he answered, done with the scan by the time he was done with his thought.

Date: 2021-07-19 07:34 pm (UTC)Hex looked at the screen and smiled.
"No, you're all clear. Perfectly healthy."
He put both devices in a bin to be cleaned.
"And the next question is if you're happy. How do you like the ship?"

Date: 2021-07-19 07:40 pm (UTC)"I like the food, I miss the trees and animals," Fawn replied. "It smells of nothing. That is strange."

Date: 2021-07-19 07:43 pm (UTC)Hex nodded and made his notes, then motioned for him to follow.
"Niv, I'll be back," he called, then turned to Fawn.
"I'm going to show you two things. The kits, and the greenhouse. Ever since that alien girl came on its gone wild."

Date: 2021-07-19 07:47 pm (UTC)"I was told not to go places like that..."

Date: 2021-07-19 07:54 pm (UTC)"Who told you that? You can go anywhere on the ship that's open to people. The things you shouldn't mess with, like the engines and transporters, they have to clear you through. So you can't get in so you can't get in trouble. You can explore all you like, Fawn. THe ship is amazing," Hex assured him as he took him to the primary school.

Date: 2021-07-19 08:01 pm (UTC)"Fin doesn't want us getting in trouble though," Fawn said softly. "He's worried they will make us go."

Date: 2021-07-19 08:09 pm (UTC)"Fin's working on ways to keep you here for good," Hex assured him. "BUt in the mean time, you can go to the greenhouses and not get in trouble. Alright? I'll show you right where they are."

Date: 2021-07-19 08:48 pm (UTC)Fawn perked up a little and nodded. "Okay. ...Fin hasn't told me what he is doing to stay. Will you?"
no subject
Date: 2021-07-19 08:52 pm (UTC)"Well...he could be an ambassador, and you'd be able to stay if you like as family. Or, I said we could get married and that could keep you both on board. Or you can apply for asylum, and at the very least that'll keep you on board til the claim goes through all of the system," he said. "But then they just rehome you to a refugee settlement. You don't get much say."
no subject
Date: 2021-07-19 08:58 pm (UTC)"You can't marry him," Fawn said, pulling a face. "Fin thinks he is a pet, but no one will keep him. He has to be wild like me. ...He will have to be an ambassador. I'll tell him so."
no subject
Date: 2021-07-19 09:03 pm (UTC)"What do you mean, a pet?" he asked. Fin hadn't mentioned anything like that.
no subject
Date: 2021-07-19 09:06 pm (UTC)"I don't know the words," Fawn said, looking frustrated. "Fin likes- No he needs to be kept? Like pets? Not pets... He's not a dog, but-"
He took a moment to think, then tried again. "Fin thinks he is to serve, to make happy. But I know he is wild like me. He must be. We are blood kin."

Date: 2021-07-19 09:12 pm (UTC)"Ohh, I see," Hex nodded. "He told me that, sort of. He says he's free to choose, though, right/"
no subject
Date: 2021-07-19 09:17 pm (UTC)"Maybe, but he won't," Fawn shrugged.
no subject
Date: 2021-07-19 09:19 pm (UTC)"He won't? What, he just takes anyone who wants to go?" he asked, finding that a bit concerning. He wasn't sure that was safe...

Date: 2021-07-19 09:22 pm (UTC)"No, the puck finds ones with money, and then he sends them to Fin. Not just anyone, I think. ...I don't know. I never thought to ask," Fawn admitted, wondering if that was wrong of him. He just always assumed Fin knew what he was doing.
"...He says we need credits?"

Date: 2021-07-19 09:32 pm (UTC)Hex was quiet for a long moment, then before he could say anything that he'd regret, he stopped at a door painted with a sun and rainbow.
"Here are the kits," he said and walked in. There were children playing and learning letters and colours and making craft projects.
"Hex, good to see you," Jin said, taking his hands and bringing them to her lilac forehead in greeting. He returned the gesture.
"I came to check on the kits. And I brough Fawn as my assistant," Hex said, then took Fawn to the box with a warming lamp above it. Inside was a mama bunny and nuzzled into her belly were tiny little kits. Hex reached in and picked one up to offer it to Fawn.
"Here."
